We’re very happy to announce another show with one of our favourite Scottish singers, songwriters and interpreters of song – and one who rides a (mighty) fine line between the traditional and twisted sides of the folk fence. Legend has it he was discovered by Will Oldham, aka Bonnie “Prince” Billy and, since signing to Drag City, he’s supported Joanna Newsom on her European Tour, featured on the cover of The Wire Magazine and collaborated in one way or other with the likes of James Yorkston, Will Oldham and Karine Polwart.

Alasdair Roberts played two band shows at our home from home, The Slaughtered Lamb, in May 2010, and we’re looking forward to this solo show in the slightly more expansive, but still intimate, confines of The Lexington, halfway between Kings Cross and Angel.

We don’t really need to tell you so but don’t miss this:

We lost a good friend of Pull Up The Roots and Electroacoustic Club this week when Jackie Leven passed away on Monday. Jackie played a handful of shows for us, including narrating Anais Mitchell’s Hadestown at Union Chapel in January; something he managed despite coming off stage at his own show the night before to find out his own brother had died. He was due to play again at The Lexington in December with Michael Cosgrave, his collaborator on a new album ‘Wayside Shrines and the Code Of The Travelling Man’.

With every obituary this week emerged another remarkable detail of an incredible life story that is already legend – the fact he was at school with Gordon Brown is one of the less remarkable – helped along in part Jackie’s own mischievous raconteuring. To quote Neil McCormick in The Daily Telegraph, “he profoundly touched many lives including mine”:
