Daniel Martin Moore is a singer and songwriter from Cold Spring, Kentucky. On the strength of an unsolicited demo sent to Seattle's legendary Sub Pop (Nirvana, Fleet Foxes, Mudhoney, The Shins) they released 'Stray Age' in October of 2008, a quietly striking album and Daniel's debut full-length. 'Dear Companion' followed in 2012, an album written and performed together by Ben Sollee and Daniel, and produced by Jim James of My Morning Jacket and Monsters of Folk. Daniel has toured with Ben and Jim (including a July 2010 performance at the Newport Folk Festival), as well as opening for Iron & Wine, The Swell Season and My Morning Jacket.
Daniel and Joan Shelley have been referring to their new album 'Farthest Field' as 'the duo project' from its inception. "The whole thing was inspired by 'Trawlerman's Song' by Vashti Bunyan and Robert Lewis," said Daniel. "Joanie and I worked up a version of it for a tour we did last summer, and we loved singing it. We got so much positive feedback from it we started thinking of other songs we might like to do, and over time, the idea for this record came to be."
The album was recorded in December, 2011 and February, 2012 in Louisville, Kentucky. The ten original compositions on Farthest Field display the two Kentucky-based musicians at their singing-songwriting best. The landscapes of their words are united with crystalline, nearly fragile, vocals and minimal, but engaging, accompaniment. This gentle, acoustic music exhibits a mature and calm transparency that perfectly matches these poetic lyrics about leaving and coming home.
Drawing on both British folk and songwriting traditions, Maz O'Connor's debut album 'Upon a Stranger Shore' arranges traditional and original tracks in subtle yet exciting ways. Maz has teamed up with some of the country's finest young folk musicians to create an energetic album which engages from beginning to end.
